Driving Tour
Enjoy a beautiful drive in the Driftless Region on the country roads of the Coon Creek Watershed. The Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) developed a self-guided driving tour of the Coon Creek Watershed. The entire tour takes about 30 minutes depending on the length of time spent at each of the sites on the map. The history, geography, geology, land use, and conservation practices of the watershed are described in the tour pamphlet.
After the tour, visit the Coon Valley Veterans Memorial Park and see the entrance pillars to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp, originally located immediately west of Coon Valley in the 1930’s. The CCC was an integral part of the Nation’s First Watershed Project as the members provided much of the labor necessary to implement the forestry and conservation practices to slow the soil erosion and reduce flooding in the watershed.
